The Simcoe County District School Board has undertaken an attendance area review for the new Alliston East elementary school, located on John W. Taylor Avenue. The new JK to Grade 8 elementary school will open in September 2017. Included in the review were attendance areas for Alliston Union PS, Ernest Cumberland ES and Cookstown Central PS. The purpose of the review was to:

  • establish a new attendance area for the new east Alliston elementary school
  • address accommodation pressures at area schools
  • determine the location of the French as a Second Language (FSL) program for the area
  • examine the viability of continuing to run a modified school year calendar

A public meeting was held on November 10, 2016. At the meeting, SCDSB staff presented potential scenarios and asked for community feedback. A second meeting was held on January 24, 2017 to share the recommendation(s) that SCDSB staff would be presenting to the Board of Trustees. These recommendations were brought forward for consideration by the SCDSB Business and Facilities Committee on February 1, 2017.

On February 22, 2017 the SCDSB Board of Trustees approved the recommended boundary and program changes. The following maps show the approved changes, which will come into effect in September 2017. If the boundary change directly affects your family, you will receive information regarding the transition process.
